An important meeting regarding the construction of a slaughterhouse in Islamabad was held on Friday at the CDA headquarters, chaired by Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The meeting was attended by CDA board members, the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi, district administration and other senior officers. During the meeting relevant officers briefed on the construction of the state of the art slaughterhouse to meet the meat requirements of the twin cities.
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa stated that, on the direction of Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Shehbaz Sharif, a state-of-the-art slaughterhouse is being constructed for the twin cities.
During the briefing, it was apprised that the slaughterhouse would not only ensure large-scale capacity for animal slaughtering and various other facilities but would also include modern chilling rooms and cold storage for meat preservation. The meeting was further briefed that the inception study for the slaughterhouse has been completed.
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed that the best financial and operational model be devised for the upgradation of the slaughterhouse and that the private sector be given an opportunity for a viable business models.

Chairman CDA emphasized that the construction of the slaughterhouse should consider the per capita meat consumption of the whole population of twin cities while meeting modern standards. He also directed a review of the supply and demand dynamics regarding meat provision in the twin cities.
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhwa further stated that a Meat Board comprising the joint administration of the twin cities and all relevant stakeholders should be formed. He also instructed officials to study the best slaughterhouse models in Karachi and Lahore.
To ensure quality standards, Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed the formation of a joint monitoring mechanism involving officials from the Islamabad and Rawalpindi administrations. He stated that the project’s objective is to ensure the provision of high-quality, hygienic meat in accordance with health standards in the twin cities.
The Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi said that the administrations of Rawalpindi and Islamabad would work together to establish a modern slaughterhouse for the residents of the twin cities.
Earlier a meeting on Polio Eradication was also held at the CDA headquarters under the chairmanship of CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The meeting discussed measures taken for polio eradication in the twin cities.
It was decided that a joint team would be formed to combat polio in the boundary areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The joint team will comprise representatives from CDA, ICT, RDA, PHA and other relevant departments. The meeting also decided that the respective administrations would visit high-risk areas in their jurisdictions and border areas.
Chairman CDA directed that the Islamabad and Rawalpindi administrations work as a single unit to eliminate polio. It was further decided that all laboratories, hospitals, and dispensaries in Islamabad must immediately inform the administration in case of any polio case detection. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa also stressed the need to address the shortage of manpower for polio eradication door to door campaign.
Concluding the meeting, Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhwa reaffirmed the commitment to make the twin cities polio-free.
