ISLAMABAD IMTISAL BUKHARI
Federal Minister for Railways, Hanif Abbasi, extended warm felicitations to the citizens of Pakistan on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer, commemorating the 27th anniversary of the nation becoming the first Muslim-majority country to attain nuclear capability.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Abbasi paid homage to former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, under whose leadership Pakistan carried out six nuclear detonations on May 28, 1998, in reaction to India’s five nuclear tests.
“Today, we honor the momentous day when Pakistan resisted immense global pressure, threats, and economic sanctions to protect its sovereignty and maintain strategic equilibrium in the region,” Abbasi stated.
He lauded the determination demonstrated by the leadership of that era and recalled the nuclear explosions in the barren hills of Chagai, Balochistan, as a powerful emblem of national strength and solidarity.
Abbasi also emphasized the bravery and nationalism of the Pakistani populace and armed forces, highlighting that in the same month of 1999, during the Kargil conflict, the nation once again united in unwavering support of its military. “India faced a setback, and by Allah’s grace, Pakistan triumphed in the battle for justice,” he remarked.
The Minister expressed deep admiration for Pakistan’s military and security agencies for their steadfast dedication to the country’s protection, and he paid tribute to all those who played a pivotal role in fortifying Pakistan’s defense capabilities.
“The nation bows in respect to its champions,” Abbasi concluded.
