Pakistan Federal Union of Journlists(PFUJ) has strongly condemned the humiliating attitude of Rawalpindi police meted out to senior journalist and President Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists Tariq Ali Verk demanding of the Punjab government to take strict action against police officials of New Town police station who are involved in it.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, President PFUJ Afzal Butt and Secretary General Arshad Ansari said Tariq Ali Virk president RIUJ is a senior journalist who is known for his professionalism and there was no reason for the police to humiliate him. “The police went to the extent of hurling abuse at him besides putting him in lock up for no reason.”
The PFUJ leaders said that it was expected that police would spring into action accounting for those police officials who threatened and intimidated President RIUJ but nothing of the sort happened at all.
They demanded that those who intimidated RIUJ President Tariq Ali Virk should be accounted for and a departmental inquiry should be conducted to probe into the matter. “We also demand the police officials tender an unconstitutional apology for their shameful attitude.”
PFUJ leaders warned that if their demands are not accepted, then the journalist fraternity would launch a protest movement against the police.
