RAWALPINDI IMTISAL BUKHARI

University Town Residents Raise Alarm Over Safety Hazards, Demand Immediate Action Residents of University Town, Rawalpindi, have expressed serious concern over multiple safety hazards in their locality and have submitted a formal written complaint to the town administration. In the complaint, residents highlighted the dangers posed to children, women, and elderly citizens due to the lack of essential safety measures.

The complaint outlines several critical issues, including:

  • Absence of protective walls around an open drain (nala) in Block A, where a child reportedly fell into the nala while riding a bicycle.
  • Open drains in Block E also lack safety grills or barriers.
  • Exposed electric wires and unsafe electric distribution points (DPs) in Blocks A, B, C, and E.
  • Numerous uncovered manholes, posing a serious threat to life.
  • Broken and deteriorated footpaths along Aziz Khan Road, endangering pedestrians.

The letter, signed by more than nine residents including Suleman Khan, Shafqat Ali, Asim Shehzad, Malik Nisar, Hafiz Adnan, Rana Hassan, Masood Ahmed, and others, urges the administration to take swift and effective action to resolve these issues.

In a related development, a detailed security report by the society’s Security In-Charge has also come to light. The report mentions an increase in thefts, poorly lit areas, and unsafe passages, making the locality vulnerable to criminal activities.

Security In-Charge Amanullah Khan informed Capital News Point.

“About 80% of streetlights in Area B are out of order, with overgrown bushes and complete darkness turning the area into a haven for thieves. Similarly, Block A’s fields and vacant plots become hotspots for criminal activity at night. At least 10 streetlights need immediate repair, and paths require proper maintenance to improve security.”

Residents have warned that if prompt action is not taken to address these serious threats, they may be left with no choice but to protest. They are urging the University Town management to act before a major tragedy occurs.
