Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired an emergency meeting to assess the ongoing flood situation caused by recent heavy rains and cloudbursts in the northern regions of the country.
Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, briefed the Prime Minister on the damages caused by cloudbursts and flash floods, as well as the progress of rescue and relief operations underway in the affected areas.
The Prime Minister directed the NDMA to continue close coordination with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), ensuring all necessary support for rescue and relief activities. He instructed that all available resources be utilized to assist the affected population.
Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, Prime Minister Sharif ordered the immediate dispatch of tents, medicines, food supplies, and other relief items to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He further directed that the relief goods be transported on a priority basis via trucks to ensure rapid delivery.
The Prime Minister stressed the need to evacuate stranded individuals and tourists from the flood-hit areas to safe locations without delay.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was also briefed on the overall damage assessment and the ongoing relief efforts. In addition, he held telephonic conversations with Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Expressing sorrow over the loss of precious lives due to the cloudbursts and flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Prime Minister reiterated the federal government’s full support to the provincial government in all rescue and relief measures. He assured that the federal government is already dispatching essential supplies including medicines, tents, and food items.
“In this difficult hour, our heartfelt sympathies are with all those affected,” said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, reaffirming his government’s commitment to stand by the flood victims and assist them in every possible way.
