Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, has taken notice of the derailment incident involving the Awam Express, which was en route from Peshawar to Karachi. The incident occurred near Lodhran Railway Station. According to the Ministry of Railways, two coaches derailed while three bogies, including the luggage van, overturned.
Initial reports confirm that one passenger lost their life and 21 others were injured. Among the injured, two are in critical condition and have been shifted to Bahawalpur Hospital, while the remaining passengers with minor injuries are receiving treatment at the DHQ Hospital in Lodhran.
Expressing sorrow over the loss of life, Minister Hanif Abbasi offered prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured. He also directed railway officials to complete the rescue and restoration operations swiftly, particularly to ensure the down-track is reopened as soon as possible.
Rescue teams, including the Divisional Superintendent (DS) from Multan and medical units, arrived promptly at the site and are actively engaged in relief efforts. The affected passengers have been transported to their destinations via alternate train arrangements. Meanwhile, up-track train operations continue uninterrupted.
Minister Abbasi has ordered a full inquiry into the incident and has instructed the concerned authorities to submit a comprehensive report within seven days.
