Pakistan has expressed strong concern over India’s decision to share flood-related alerts through diplomatic channels instead of the mandated Indus Waters Commission, calling it a violation of the Indus Waters Treaty.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Foreign Office Spokesperson stated that India had conveyed flood warnings to Pakistan via diplomatic means, bypassing the agreed mechanism under the Indus Waters Treaty. The Spokesperson emphasized that India is obligated to fully implement all provisions of the treaty.
The spokesperson further criticized India’s unilateral announcement to suspend parts of the treaty, calling it a serious breach of international law. He warned that such actions could have grave implications for peace and stability in South Asia.
“India must honor its treaty commitments and avoid actions that undermine regional trust and cooperation,” the statement concluded, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to upholding the Indus Waters Treaty in both letter and spirit.
