Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with three brave shepherds from Gilgit-Baltistan at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on Monday and praised them for their heroic efforts in saving hundreds of lives by issuing a timely warning about an impending glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) in the Ghizer district.

According to a statement issued by the PM Office Media Wing, the Prime Minister met with Wasit Khan, Ansar, and Muhammad Khan, commending their courage, sense of responsibility, and quick action. Their early warning helped evacuate a village in time, saving the lives of over 300 residents.

Terming them the “Heroes of Gilgit-Baltistan,” the Prime Minister presented each of the three men with a cash award of Rs. 2.5 million on behalf of the Government of Pakistan. He lauded their act of selflessness and called it a proud moment not just for the local community, but for the entire nation.

“This act of humanity will be remembered in golden words,” PM Shehbaz said, emphasizing the importance of such community-led actions in preventing natural disasters. He stated that the Ministry of Climate Change is working to develop an advanced and integrated early warning system in Gilgit-Baltistan to better prepare for and respond to environmental emergencies in the future.

The shepherds expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister and said it was by the grace of Allah that they were able to help save lives. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar was also present at the meeting.
