The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a detailed report on the damages caused by the recent floods in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers. According to the report, a total of 2,308 villages have been affected, impacting over 1.516 million people across the province.
Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed stated that 481,000 people trapped in flood-affected areas were safely evacuated to secure locations. To support those affected, 511 relief camps and 351 medical camps have been established in the most severely impacted districts.
Additionally, 321 veterinary camps have been set up to provide medical care for livestock, and over 405,000 animals have been relocated to safer areas.
The Relief Commissioner provided updated water flow data, noting that the flow at Marala (Chenab River) has reached 111,000 cusecs, at Khanki 170,000 cusecs, Qadirabad 171,000 cusecs, and at Trimmu 146,080 cusecs — with water levels continuing to rise.
In the Ravi River, flow at Jassar is 78,000 cusecs, and at Shahdara it has reached 138,000 cusecs, with a slight decrease observed. However, at Balloki Headworks, the flow has increased to 199,000 cusecs. At Head Sidhnai, the inflow is 32,000 and outflow is 18,000 cusecs.
Regarding the Sutlej River, the flow at Ganda Singh Wala has surged to 303,000 cusecs and continues to rise, while at Suleimanki, the flow stands at 138,000 cusecs.
Water levels in reservoirs are also nearing capacity. Mangla Dam is currently 80% full, and Tarbela Dam has reached 100% capacity. In India, Pong Dam is at 94%, Thein Dam at 92%, and the Bhakra Dam on the Sutlej River is at 84% capacity.
Tragically, the floods have claimed 30 lives due to drowning, with two additional deaths reported in Lahore from lightning strikes.
Commissioner Nabeel Javed assured that, under the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, assessments are being conducted to compensate affected citizens and farmers for their losses.
Over the past 24 hours, heavy monsoon rainfall has been recorded in several districts: Mandi Bahauddin (81mm), Hafizabad (63mm), Jhelum (50mm), Sialkot (47mm), Bahawalnagar (44mm), Gujrat (34mm), Faisalabad (32mm), Sheikhupura (31mm), Lahore (26mm), Chakwal (18mm), Gujranwala (14mm), Khanewal (12mm), and Jhang (10mm). Rainfall has also been recorded in Rawalpindi, Kot Addu, Sahiwal, Sargodha, and Kasur.
The 9th spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue across most of Punjab’s districts until September 2.
