The ninth spell of monsoon rains continues across Lahore and most districts of Punjab and is expected to last until September 2. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning to all concerned departments to remain on high alert.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, heavy downpours are ongoing in several cities, including Lahore. Acting on PDMA Punjab’s directives, commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province have been placed on alert.
Director General PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, stated that in line with the Chief Minister’s instructions, administrative bodies in rain-affected areas — including WASA and rescue services — must stay active in the field. He stressed the urgent need to ensure timely drainage of rainwater, particularly in low-lying areas.
All chokepoints must be manned with staff and equipped with drainage machinery. Special attention has been directed toward clearing water around major roads, public buildings, and hospitals.
DG Kathia further directed that all disposal stations remain fully operational and that backup generators be readily available to maintain uninterrupted drainage operations.
