President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the Petroleum Amendment Bill 2025 into law, aimed at strengthening measures against fuel smuggling and unauthorized petrol pumps, according to a statement released by the President’s Press Wing on Saturday.

With the passage of the amended act, enhanced powers have been granted to deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, and customs officials to seize illegal petroleum products. The bill introduces an IT-based tracking system for petroleum distribution to increase oversight and transparency.

The legislation also enforces stricter penalties and heavier fines for violations. Officials stated that the new law is a major step toward modernizing the regulation of the petroleum sector and will significantly improve government efforts to combat smuggling and tax evasion.
