PM Shehbaz Sharif Directs NDMA to Intensify Flood Response Amid Rising River Levels

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) from Beijing, where he was briefed on the current flood situation in Pakistan.

The NDMA Chairman informed the Prime Minister about the increasing water levels and rising flood threats in major rivers including the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej. He also provided updates on ongoing relief and rescue efforts.

Expressing concern over the situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed NDMA to ensure all rescue and relief operations are fully prepared in advance, especially in view of the escalating threat posed by the swelling rivers.

He instructed the NDMA to work in close coordination with provincial governments to expedite safety measures and emergency response activities. The Prime Minister also emphasized the need for proactive public awareness campaigns to alert communities living near the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers about potential flood risks.

The directive reflects the government’s commitment to timely action and coordination to mitigate the impact of natural disasters and protect lives and property.
