Large-Scale Embezzlement Alleged in Food and Oxygen Gas Procurement at Sindh Government Hospital Saudabad

Serious allegations of large-scale financial irregularities have surfaced at Sindh Government Hospital Saudabad the newly appointed Medical Superintendent (MS), Dr. Ali Murtaza Shah, is accused of violating Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SEPRA) rules by making payments exceeding Rs. 10 million to contractors within just 15 days of assuming charge.

According to official documents obtained from sources, Dr. Shah assumed charge as Medical Superintendent on July 24, 2025. Shortly after, he allegedly approved payments to contractors for food supplies, oxygen gas, and fuel for hospital generators without inviting tenders, raising serious concerns about transparency and misuse of public funds.

The documents reveal that:

Know Rs. 5,000,2398 was allocated for patient food.Rs. 1,258,047 was withdrawn for generator fuel during load-shedding.
Rs. 2,766,075 was spent on oxygen gas procurement.
Over Rs. 200,000 was spent on petrol for officers and ambulances within just eight days.

Sources alleged that these expenditures were processed and released in violation of procurement regulations. When contacted, the office of the Accountant General (AG) Sindh confirmed that the funds were indeed released on August 8, 2025.

The alleged irregularities have raised questions about the misuse of health department funds at a time when public hospitals in Sindh are already facing critical shortages of resources.
