Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed satisfaction with the positive direction of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh, encompassing people-to-people contacts, academic exchanges, trade, and economic cooperation. He emphasized that the ties between the two countries are rooted in a shared history, cultural links, and deep connections.
The Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting with Bangladesh’s Adviser on Religious Affairs, Dr. A.F.M. Khaled Hossain, who called on him in Islamabad. Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Muhammad Iqbal Hussain Khan, was also present during the meeting, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing on Thursday.
Welcoming Dr. Khaled Hossain and his delegation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh. He acknowledged the positive momentum in people-to-people contacts, academic collaboration, and trade and economic ties, underscoring the need to continue fostering these connections.
Recalling meetings held in New York and Cairo, the Prime Minister praised the visionary leadership of Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and his role in poverty alleviation. He also appreciated Professor Yunus’s efforts in strengthening Pakistan-Bangladesh relations.
Dr. Khaled Hossain highlighted the brotherly relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh, rooted in historic ties and shared religious values. He handed over a letter from Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, expressing condolences and offering aid for the loss of life and property caused by recent floods in Pakistan.
The meeting also included discussions on the prospects of restoring direct flights between the two countries soon. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed hope that both countries would maintain the current momentum in bilateral relations by continuing high-level visits. In this regard, he reiterated an invitation to Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser to visit Pakistan officially.
In response, Dr. Khaled Hossain extended an invitation from the Chief Adviser and the Government of Bangladesh for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to visit Bangladesh.
