Pakistan, Saudi Arabia Sign Historic Strategic Defense Pact; COAS Gen. Asim Munir Plays Key Role

ISLAMABAD STAFF REPORTER

A new chapter in Pakistan–Saudi Arabia relations has been written with the signing of a historic Strategic Bilateral Defense Agreement, marking a major advancement in defense cooperation and regional security. Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir played a pivotal role in the preparation and finalization of this landmark pact.

According to official details released on Thursday, the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia has reached a significant turning point. During the recent visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir to Saudi Arabia, both leaders were accorded an exceptional and warm welcome — underscoring the deep-rooted ties that go far beyond diplomacy, built on mutual trust and spiritual reverence for the Holy Mosques and the Prophet’s Mosque (Roza-e-Rasool ﷺ).

During the visit, both nations signed the Strategic Defense Agreement, which is being hailed as a revolutionary step in enhancing mutual defense and security cooperation. Under the terms of the pact, any aggression against one country will be considered an aggression against both, reinforcing a joint defense posture and collective security mechanism.

The agreement elevates Pakistan to the role of a strategic partner in the protection of the Haramain Sharifain and the security of Saudi Arabia — a commitment that builds upon decades of close military cooperation, joint exercises, and defense collaboration between the two countries.

This strategic partnership is expected to significantly contribute to regional peace and global security while also opening up broader opportunities in economic, diplomatic, and military domains.
