Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, while addressing a grand ceremony honoring Overseas Pakistanis in London, emphasized unity, national pride, and the need for transforming Pakistan into an economic powerhouse. The Prime Minister congratulated Pakistanis worldwide on the “historic victory of May 10,” calling it a defining moment that delivered a lesson to the enemy “they will never forget.”

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the bravery of the armed forces, unity of political and military leadership, and unwavering determination as the key reasons behind Pakistan’s recent defense success, particularly referencing Operation Bunyān Mursūs. He commended the role of Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Air Chief Zaheer Ahmed Babar for their leadership and professionalism during the conflict, noting that six enemy aircraft were downed in a matter of hours in retaliation to unprovoked attacks.

“The entire nation—from Karachi to Peshawar—bowed in gratitude for this victory. Today, when people across the world see the green passport, they say: ‘Salute to the brave Pakistanis’,” he remarked.

The Prime Minister shared a touching moment, mentioning the martyrdom of a child, Arzuta Abbas, son of Lt. Col. Zaheer Abbas, during the conflict. “We all attended the funeral of the little martyr, whose face was glowing like a flower,” he recalled emotionally.

Kashmir & Regional Relations

Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance on the Kashmir issue, asserting,

“Anyone who thinks relations with India can normalize without resolving Kashmir is living in a fool’s paradise. The blood of Kashmiris will not go in vain.”

He emphasized dialogue based on equality on core issues such as Kashmir, water disputes, trade, and counter-terrorism. “We desire peace, but not at the cost of dignity,” he added.

Support for Palestine

The Prime Minister also voiced strong support for Palestine and condemned Israeli aggression in Gaza. “Over 64,000 innocent people, including women, children, and the elderly, have been martyred. Starvation and lack of medicine have turned Gaza into a graveyard,” he said, urging the Muslim world to take a stronger stance.

Tribute to Overseas Pakistanis

Calling overseas Pakistanis “true ambassadors,” Sharif expressed gratitude for their contributions to the national economy.

“You sent $38.5 billion in remittances last year alone. Without your support, our economy could not move forward.”

He acknowledged their hard work and integrity in foreign lands and praised professionals, laborers, and entrepreneurs alike.

“From Europe to the Middle East, your services and conduct reflect the true spirit of Pakistan,” he said.

Vision for Economic Transformation

Sharif stated that Pakistan must now shift from being a military power to becoming an economic power. He stressed the need to eliminate debt, encourage foreign investment, and empower youth, especially in fields like artificial intelligence, IT, and vocational training.

“Our true asset is our 60% youth population. With proper training and education, they can raise our flag to the skies.”

The Prime Minister vowed to implement policies aimed at self-reliance and national prosperity.

“Just as we brought down six enemy jets, we can also defeat poverty and debt—with determination and unity,” he declared.

Call for Collective Resolve

In closing, Shehbaz Sharif stated that the dream of Pakistan—envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam—can only be achieved through merit, hard work, and honesty.

“Let’s decide that we will work day and night. With Allah’s help, we will reach the destination of dignity, peace, and progress.”

The ceremony was also addressed by Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain, and OPF Chairman Qamar Raza. The event was attended by a large number of overseas Pakistanis from various walks of life.
