Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi Inaugurates New Rake for Subak Kharam Railcar at Rawalpindi Station

Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, formally inaugurated the new rake of the Subak Kharam Railcar (104DN) at Rawalpindi Railway Station on Monday. Speaking to the media during the ceremony, the minister highlighted the government’s commitment to modernizing Pakistan Railways through comprehensive reforms and international partnerships aimed at enhancing travel facilities for passengers.

Hanif Abbasi stated that the process of replacing rakes for the four railcars operating between Lahore and Rawalpindi is underway in phases, providing passengers with more comfortable and modern travel experiences.

Key Initiatives Announced:

  • Improved Onboard Services:
    All classes will now offer quality meals, beverages, and a comfortable environment.
  • New Train Service for Twin Cities:
    A new rail service between Margalla and Rawalpindi stations is being launched in collaboration with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to facilitate residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
  • New Interchange at 9th Avenue:
    An interchange near Margalla Railway Station will be constructed to improve accessibility.
  • Electric Bus Connectivity:
    A new electric bus service will connect Rawalpindi Station to Shibli Chowk in partnership with the Punjab Mass Transit Authority.
  • Smart Station Upgrade:
    With support from the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), Rawalpindi Station will be transformed into a safe and smart station by October 15, featuring modern facilities and enhanced security.

Passenger-Centric Developments:

  • Railway stations will now include executive lounges, modern waiting areas, escalators, and free Wi-Fi.
  • The Narowal section, now deemed profitable, will be reopened on October 25.
  • Upgradation of 400 coaches is set to be completed by December 31.
  • 60 new coaches, manufactured at the Carriage Factory, will also be inducted by December.
  • Reforms in major trains such as Shalimar Express, Awam Express, and Allama Iqbal Express are ongoing.
  • Renovation of running rooms for railway drivers and staff has been initiated.
  • A new Safe and Secure System will be introduced, enabling passenger identification via facial and eye recognition, to ensure secure and modern rail travel.

Saudi-Pakistan Agreement: A New Era of Development

Minister Hanif Abbasi also shared that a recent agreement with Saudi Arabia, achieved through the efforts of the Prime Minister, will open new doors of cooperation and development across various sectors, including railways. This initiative is expected to have positive economic implications and marks the beginning of a new era of transformation and collaboration.
