Netanyahu Apologizes to Qatari PM Over Deadly Israeli Airstrike in Doha

Washington (Monitoring Desk)

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally apologized to Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani over an Israeli airstrike in Doha that resulted in the death of a Qatari security official.

According to a report by a foreign news agency citing Israeli media sources, Prime Minister Netanyahu made the apology via a phone call from the White House, where he had arrived for a scheduled meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The incident in question occurred on September 9, when Israeli fighter jets carried out an airstrike in Doha, targeting the headquarters of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas. The attack reportedly killed five Hamas members, including the son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, as well as one Qatari security officer.

Hamas sources revealed that the strike was aimed at the group’s top leadership, who were meeting at the time to discuss a Gaza ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States. The group confirmed that while the leadership was the intended target, all senior officials escaped unharmed.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s apology marks a rare diplomatic move, especially given Qatar’s close ties with Hamas. The incident has added new tensions to the already complex Middle East geopolitical landscape, with observers closely watching Qatar’s next steps.

The Qatari government has not yet issued an official statement regarding the apology or the incident.
