Parliamentary Secretary for Aviation, Ms. Zaib Jaffar, announced on Monday that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has become a profitable entity due to effective government measures, with privatization expected by October.

Speaking in the National Assembly in response to a question from MNA Agha Rafiullah, Ms. Jaffar stated that PIA suffered significant losses due to a statement made in the House. She added that a cabinet committee had been formed to investigate the matter, and its report is expected in the upcoming session.

“PIA is now operating in profit after several key reforms,” she told the House. “The government’s agenda includes making the airline profitable and then proceeding with its privatization.”

Ms. Jaffar elaborated that the airline underwent downsizing, and several previously closed routes were reopened. She emphasized that when the airline is auctioned, it will be as a revenue-generating enterprise.

She further informed the Assembly that PIA’s current operational fleet includes 19 aircraft, including two ATRs, and efforts are underway to expand the fleet.

“PIA was once among the world’s best airlines, and we are committed to restoring it to that status,” she added.
