President Asif Ali Zardari has stated that Pakistan’s maritime sector is the backbone of national trade and economic stability, emphasizing its crucial role in the country’s sustainable development.

In a special message issued by the President’s Secretariat on the occasion of World Maritime Day 2025, President Zardari said that Pakistan’s maritime future is bright and sustainable, and the modernization and digitization of ports remain a top government priority.

Modernization and Reforms Underway

The President noted that the upgradation of Karachi Port and Port Qasim is actively in progress, with the ambition to transform these ports into regional trade hubs. He further highlighted ongoing reforms in maritime policies, aimed at making Pakistan’s national shipping globally competitive.

He emphasized that the provision of incentives to local shipping companies will help reduce foreign dependency, strengthen freight security, and support foreign exchange savings.

Port Digitization and Integration of Supply Chain

President Zardari pointed out that the Pakistan Single Window initiative is facilitating the gradual implementation of a Port Community System, which will help digitize port operations and streamline the entire supply chain. He asserted that global-standard reforms are essential for national interests and regional integration.

“Pakistan is emerging as a responsible member of the global maritime community, and we are committed to sustainable development through unity and high performance in the maritime sector,” he said.

A Vision for a Strong Maritime Future

The President underscored that with effective policies and continued effort, it is possible to build a robust maritime future. He reiterated that Pakistan would be developed into a dignified, modern, and sustainable maritime nation on the international stage.

Investment in the maritime sector will not only increase trade volume but also create employment opportunities. Modernizing our ports will transform Pakistan into a regional trade gateway, and we are ready to become a key part of the global supply chain,” President Zardari added.

He concluded by affirming the government’s commitment to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to advance the maritime sector for the prosperity of the nation.
