Federal Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousaf Meets Vatican Envoy to Discuss Interfaith Harmony and Minority Rights

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, met with the Ambassador of Vatican City, Archbishop Germano Penemote, on Tuesday to discuss rising trends of religious intolerance, terrorism, and strategies to promote interfaith harmony.

According to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the meeting focused on strengthening mutual cooperation and exploring ways to build a more inclusive and tolerant society.

During the discussion, Minister Yousaf emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering an environment of inclusion, tolerance, and mutual respect for all members of society. He highlighted various initiatives taken by the government to empower minorities politically, socially, and economically. “Seats have been reserved for minorities in both federal and provincial legislatures,” he noted.

He also mentioned the establishment of the National Commission for Minorities, the approval of the Interfaith Harmony Policy, and policies promoting religious tolerance as key steps toward ensuring minorities’ rights and autonomy in Pakistan.

Calling the meeting a significant opportunity to enhance bilateral relations, Sardar Yousaf encouraged regular exchanges between delegations from Pakistan and Vatican City to further strengthen ties.

Archbishop Penemote appreciated Pakistan’s efforts and shared that the Catholic Church is actively running major educational and healthcare initiatives in the country. He proposed the establishment of a modern university under the Catholic Church’s administration in Pakistan, focused on advanced education and ethical values.

In response, Minister Yousaf assured full cooperation and support for the initiative. Archbishop Penemote also extended an official invitation to Sardar Muhammad Yousaf to visit Vatican City.
