Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, held a meeting with Prime Minister’s Coordinator and Focal Person on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, at the Ministry of Climate Change to discuss urgent flood relief efforts and long-term strategies for tackling climate change in the province.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Office on Tuesday, the two officials discussed providing immediate assistance to recent flood victims in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, joint efforts to combat climate change, and upcoming development initiatives.
Principal Secretary to the Governor, Zubair Arshad, was also present during the meeting.
Romina Khurshid Alam assured the Governor that the Ministry of Climate Change would provide swift and comprehensive aid to flood-affected communities to avoid any delays in the recovery process. She stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy involving all relevant institutions, not only to respond to natural disasters but also to mitigate their long-term impacts.
During the meeting, she proposed the establishment of a “Governor’s Legacy Centre” at the Governor House in Peshawar. This center would focus on climate-resilient infrastructure and health projects, and would be supported by international donors. The goal is to promote modern, environmentally sustainable development across the province.
Governor Kundi appreciated the federal government’s support and emphasized that joint efforts are essential to addressing growing environmental challenges. He pledged full cooperation from the provincial level and supported the idea of closer institutional coordination.
Both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry of Climate Change and the Governor’s Office to ensure effective and integrated implementation of future environmental and developmental initiatives.
It was also agreed that SustainAble Cities Global Ltd would be actively supported in its future investment plans in Pakistan, particularly in developing climate-resilient infrastructure to address the impacts of climate change.
