The Islamabad High Court on Friday dismissed the interim bail applications of former Executive Director of Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Adnan Akram Bajwa, and co-accused Shahid Latif in the APP mega corruption case. Following the court’s decision, both accused were taken into custody by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from the premises of the court.
The case was heard by Justice Muhammad Azam Khan of the Islamabad High Court.
During the hearing, APP’s legal advisors Rana Roheel and Advocate Khurram Baig appeared before the court and highlighted the role of the accused in the embezzlement scheme. Rana Roheel informed the court that Adnan Akram Bajwa had unlawfully authorized the transfer of the Provident Fund, after which co-accused illegally moved millions of rupees—meant as trust funds for employees—into unauthorized accounts.
Advocate Khurram Baig added that Shahid Latif was involved in creating fake salary and credit sheets, based on which illegal salaries worth millions were disbursed, causing significant losses to the national treasury.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court rejected the interim bail applications of the two accused. Immediately after the verdict, an FIA team arrested both men from the court premises.
It is worth noting that the FIA is currently investigating a total of 16 individuals in connection with the case, who are accused of embezzling millions of rupees from employee funds and the national exchequer.
