DG ISI Lt Gen Asim Malik to Continue in Role, Service Tenure Extended

Security sources have confirmed that Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General Asim Malik, will continue to serve in his current role, as his tenure has been extended. However, the exact duration of the extension has not been disclosed.

Lt Gen Asim Malik assumed charge as the DG ISI on September 30, 2024, after previously serving as the Adjutant General at the General Headquarters (GHQ). His appointment as ISI chief was initially for one year.

According to available information, Lt Gen Asim Malik is a graduate of the 80th Long Course of the Pakistan Military Academy and was awarded the prestigious Sword of Honour. He belongs to the Baloch Regiment of the Pakistan Army.

Throughout his distinguished military career, he has held several key command and instructional positions. These include commanding an infantry division in Balochistan and an infantry brigade in Waziristan—areas that have witnessed recent surges in militant activity. He also served as Chief Instructor at the National Defence University (NDU) and as an instructor at the Command and Staff College, Quetta.

Lt Gen Malik has previously worked in the Military Operations Directorate and is a graduate of Fort Leavenworth (USA) and the Royal College of Defence Studies (UK). He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general on October 6, 2021.

In addition, he holds a PhD from Pakistan’s National Defence University, focusing on US-Pakistan relations, reflecting his academic engagement alongside military leadership.
