Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senators have reiterated the party’s longstanding commitment to democracy, national unity, and the welfare of the people amid the country’s ongoing struggles with floods and natural disasters.

Speaking at a press conference held at the PPP Central Secretariat on Tuesday, former Minister of State for Law and Justice Senator Shahadat Awan, Senator Palwasha Khan, Senator Waqar Mehdi, and Senator Masroor Ahsan emphasized that the PPP has always stood for the betterment of the country and made sacrifices for the continuation of democracy.

Senator Palwasha Khan stated that Pakistan is currently facing multiple natural disasters, including devastating floods, and that the PPP, as a symbol of the federation, has a mandate across provinces. “Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has exposed the Indian narrative and we still believe that ‘a friend of Modi is a traitor.’ We joined the coalition government to protect democracy,” she said. She added that PPP respects all regions, especially Punjab, and offers constructive suggestions rather than criticism.

Senator Waqar Mehdi highlighted that PPP has never promoted provincialism but always advocated for a united Pakistan. “We believe in decency and dialogue. PPP is a chain that binds all four provinces,” he said, noting that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari improved international relations and helped Pakistan exit the FATF grey list. Mehdi also expressed strong support for the military and national security and recalled that 2.8 million people in Sindh were helped through the Benazir Income Support Programme during previous floods.

Senator Masroor Ahsan remarked that the PPP is practicing politics of stability and survival, staying true to its federal roots with a presence in all four provinces. “We are carrying forward the legacy of democratic sacrifices,” he said.

Senator Shahadat Awan added, “The entire nation knows about PPP’s role in defending democracy. We only asked that the Benazir Income Support Programme be used again to help the people in need.”

The senators concluded that the PPP remains dedicated to serving the nation in times of crisis and upholding democratic values.
