Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, chaired an important meeting at the Ministry of Railways today to review operations, maintenance, passenger facilities, cleanliness, solarization, and anti-encroachment efforts in the Peshawar Railway Division.

During the meeting, the Peshawar Railway Division gave a comprehensive online briefing to the Minister, covering key performance indicators including train punctuality, station hygiene, fumigation activities, and passenger convenience.

Divisional Superintendent (DS) Peshawar, Mr. Farman Ghani, informed the session that the punctuality rate of trains in the division has reached an impressive 99%, a notable achievement. He further highlighted that over the past three months, there have been no complaints regarding pests such as bedbugs, mosquitoes, or cockroaches, as regular fumigation campaigns continue effectively. Cleanliness standards at both stations and trains have also been significantly improved to ensure a hygienic and comfortable environment for passengers.

It was also reported that nine stations in the Peshawar Division have been fully converted to solar energy. Additionally, solarization and metering of 1,400 railway quarters have been successfully completed. These steps are expected to promote energy efficiency and contribute to a more sustainable and modern railway infrastructure.

Minister Hanif Abbasi directed all relevant officials to ensure driver safety and comfort without compromise. He reiterated that passenger facilitation remains the top priority of the Ministry and emphasized strict action against ticketless travel.

The Minister also stressed the continuation of the anti-encroachment campaign to safeguard Pakistan Railways’ land assets and protect national property.

He appreciated the performance of the Peshawar Division team and stated that Pakistan Railways is entering a new era of modernization, transparency, and public service. He directed that such detailed briefings should be conducted regularly across all railway divisions to ensure consistent improvement and efficiency nationwide.

Chairman Railways Mazhar Ali Shah, Secretary Railway Board Rahat Mirza, and other senior officials of the Ministry attended the meeting, while DS Peshawar Farman Ghani and his team joined virtually to present their report.

Concluding the meeting, Minister Hanif Abbasi stated:

“All divisions of Pakistan Railways are being restructured along modern lines. We are committed to providing every passenger with better facilities, safe and comfortable travel. At every step, we will ensure quality, transparency, and innovation.”
