The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has decided to recommend a ban on a religious-political group involved in extremism, as part of sweeping measures to restore law and order in the province.
During a high-level security meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, the government made several critical decisions aimed at curbing hate speech, incitement, and violence.
“Individuals involved in spreading hatred, inciting violence, and breaking the law will be arrested. Those responsible for attacks on police officers and public property will face terrorism charges,” the government stated
The leadership of the banned outfit will be placed on the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act, which imposes strict monitoring and travel restrictions.
Further actions include:
- Seizure of the group’s properties and assets, to be handed over to the Auqaf Department
- A complete ban on posters, banners, and advertisements of the organization
- Freezing of bank accounts and shutdown of social media platforms
- Strict enforcement of the Loudspeaker Act, with harsh penalties for violations
The provincial government also approved a crackdown on illegally residing foreign nationals, including a combing operation to identify and deport those without valid documentation.
Additionally, the government will work to bring Afghan citizens into the tax net, as part of broader economic and security measures.
A zero-tolerance policy was also announced regarding illegal firearms:
- Immediate recovery of unauthorized weapons
- Inspection of all licensed arms dealers’ stock
- Declaration of illegal arms possession as a non-bailable offense
- Approval of penalties including up to 14 years in prison and fines of up to Rs. 2 million
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that law and order will not be compromised, and that extremism and illegal activities will be dealt with sternly and swiftly.
These decisions signal the Punjab government’s intent to establish long-term peace, strengthen rule of law, and ensure the safety and security of all citizens
