Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari addressed a commemorative event in Karachi marking the anniversary of the Karsaz tragedy, paying heartfelt tribute to the party workers martyred in the 2007 bombing of Benazir Bhutto’s welcome rally.

Speaking at the event, Bilawal stated, “Today, October 18, we remember the brave workers who laid down their lives while accompanying Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. She was not afraid of terrorists and continued her struggle until her martyrdom. The PPP proudly walks the path she laid out.”

Bilawal described the Karsaz tragedy as a major chapter in Pakistan’s political history, calling it a conspiracy against the federation, shrouded in unanswered questions and lacking transparency. “Unfortunately, this has long been the pattern in our country,” he remarked.

He also announced that the party’s executive committee would be meeting later in the day to discuss various matters, including his recent meeting with the Prime Minister, the details of which he plans to share during the session.

Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari also paid homage to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and the martyrs of Karsaz. In his message, he highlighted Benazir’s bravery in returning to Pakistan despite clear threats, and her resolve to continue her mission even after the horrific attack. He recalled her visit to hospitals to meet the injured and console the bereaved families, calling it a reflection of her compassion and unwavering commitment to democracy.

President Zardari saluted all the martyrs of democracy and reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to their vision and sacrifices.
