Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), emphasized the urgent need for unity in eradicating polio in Pakistan, noting that 41 polio cases were reported in the country in 2024.

Speaking on Global Polio Day, Senator Khalid recalled that a polio-free Pakistan was the dream of the late Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who launched a nationwide campaign against the disease in 1994. She highlighted that Pakistan remains one of the only two countries where polio is still prevalent and stressed the responsibility of raising public awareness about the importance of polio vaccination, which can protect children from lifelong consequences.

Senator Khalid pledged that on this Global Polio Day, the fight against polio would continue with renewed determination. She urged parents and guardians to ensure their children receive polio drops. Expressing solidarity with families affected by polio, she reaffirmed BISP’s commitment to protecting Pakistani children and achieving a polio-free nation.
