Free Press is the Guarantee of a Strong and Democratic Pakistan: PM Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed that a free press is the guarantee of a strong, transparent, and democratic Pakistan. In his message on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, the Prime Minister emphasized that free, informed, and responsible journalism forms the foundation of any democratic society.

He stated that acts of violence, threats, or revenge against journalists in the line of duty are in fact attacks on freedom of expression. The Prime Minister paid tribute to all journalists who have endured hardships in pursuit of truth and expressed solidarity with the families of those media professionals who lost their lives while performing their duties.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the Government of Pakistan’s firm commitment to protecting press freedom and ensuring a safe working environment for journalists. He assured that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure effective investigation, justice, and legal action against those responsible for crimes against media professionals.

The Prime Minister also urged the international community, media organizations, and civil society to play their role in promoting freedom of expression and ensuring the safety of journalists. He concluded by reiterating that a free press is the cornerstone of a strong, transparent, and democratic Pakistan.
