Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has announced that his party will support the amendment to Article 243, while opposing proposals regarding the elimination of dual nationality, the appointment of election commissioners, and executive magistrates.

Speaking to the media after a Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting at Bilawal House in Karachi, the PPP chief clarified the party’s stance. “The PPP will support Article 243. If this amendment were to harm the supremacy of civilian authority or democracy, I would personally oppose it. I am supporting it because it causes no harm,” he said.

Bilawal Bhutto emphasized that the decisions made by the government after winning the war have earned Pakistan respect and are now being given a constitutional and legal framework, which the PPP fully supports.

Regarding the NFC Award and other issues, he said the party is open to consensus and willing to coordinate with other political parties if needed.

On the topic of constitutional courts, Bilawal said, “Constitutional courts are an initiative of the PPP. The Charter of Democracy also mentions these courts, and they should be established. However, other aspects of the Charter must also be implemented.”

He elaborated on judicial appointments, saying that while judges are currently transferred by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice, the amendment would give a parliamentary committee the power to handle transfers. He suggested that both Chief Justices of the concerned courts be made members of the committee to allow them to consult with judges directly.

However, Bilawal made it clear that the PPP does not agree with amendments related to dual nationality, election commissioners, or executive magistrates and will not support changes in these areas.
