Pakistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to further strengthen their multifaceted cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, energy, and defense.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku on Friday, congratulated the government and people of Azerbaijan on their Victory Day, marking the historic triumph in the 44-day war for the liberation of Karabakh.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ilham Aliyev was held at the Presidential Palace in Baku. Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was also present.
Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed gratitude to President Aliyev for inviting him to attend Azerbaijan’s Victory Day celebrations. He stated that Azerbaijan’s victory in the Karabakh liberation war is a beacon of hope for oppressed peoples struggling for their right to self-determination — particularly those in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.
Both leaders reviewed the state of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening political, trade, investment, energy, connectivity, and defense cooperation between the two brotherly nations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also invited President Ilham Aliyev to visit Pakistan at his convenience, which the Azerbaijani leader graciously accepted.
The Prime Minister lauded President Aliyev for signing the historic peace agreement with Armenia earlier this year, terming it a milestone for regional stability. President Ilham Aliyev, in turn, thanked Pakistan for its continued support of Azerbaijan’s just struggle against the illegal occupation of Karabakh and appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting peace and stability in South Asia.
