APNEC Delegation Meets Federal Information Secretary, Raises Key Issues Facing Media Workers

A high-level delegation of the All Pakistan Newspapers and Electronic Media Employees Confederation (APNEC) met Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil on Sunday and congratulated him on assuming office. The delegation briefed the secretary in detail on the challenges faced by media workers across the country.

The APNEC representatives highlighted longstanding pending dues, the need for a national health insurance scheme for media employees, the composition of the Journalists and Media Workers Professionals Protection Commission, shortcomings in service structures, and the growing trend of private companies handling recruitment inside media organizations.

The delegation was led by Central Chairman Muhammad Siddique, accompanied by Kaleem Shameem, Muhammad Shiraz, Sobia Khan, and Imran Ashraf. They emphasized that increasing wages, ensuring timely salary payments, and restoring the fundamental right to unionization were urgent needs of the current era.

Federal Information Secretary Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil appreciated APNEC’s efforts and assured the delegation of full cooperation in resolving the issues of media workers. He said the Ministry of Information would take positive and practical measures to safeguard the rights of journalists and media professionals.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides agreeing to strengthen coordination and communication in the future.
