LAHORE BUREAU REPORT
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has praised the recent notification of the Chief of Defence Forces, saying it has put an end to all speculations and reinforced confidence in Pakistan’s military and governance. Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Malik stated that Pakistan’s armed forces are fully capable of defeating any enemy and that all three branches of the military have demonstrated exemplary coordination in defense operations.
He highlighted that under the leadership of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Pakistan has achieved significant international recognition. “Today, no global forum meets without Pakistan’s representation,” he said, adding that the restructuring within the armed forces aims to enhance coordination across all three branches.
Malik emphasized that world leaders, including the US President, have acknowledged Pakistan’s capabilities, and various international delegations are visiting the country. China and Qatar have consistently supported Pakistan through challenging times, he added.
Turning to the country’s economy, the federal minister said that under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, Pakistan has successfully averted a potential default. “A few years ago, bankruptcy warnings were rampant. Today, we are collectively strengthening Pakistan’s economy and promoting export-based growth,” he said. Malik credited former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and lauded the Prime Minister’s economic team, noting his active role in addressing the country’s fiscal challenges.
Addressing the energy sector, Malik stated that circular debt in the gas sector is being controlled and domestic energy production enhanced. He announced that 250,000 to 300,000 new gas connections are being provided to local households, easing gas supply issues during winter. He also confirmed that major domestic companies, including OGDC and PPL, are operating at full capacity, generating revenue and employment.
He further revealed that international energy companies are returning to Pakistan, with Turkish Petroleum set to open an office in Islamabad, creating additional jobs. Malik stressed that Pakistan is reducing its dependence on foreign oil and gas through joint investments with international firms like PSO and FW, bringing in millions of dollars for the country’s energy infrastructure.
Ali Pervaiz Malik concluded by expressing confidence that Pakistan’s energy and economic sectors are now on a path of sustainable growth, benefiting both citizens and the broader national economy.
