The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) has officially launched its National Inspector Pilot Training, a landmark initiative aimed at digitizing and standardizing the inspection and accreditation process of medical and dental institutions across the country. The program is designed to enhance regulatory efficiency, integrate digital inspection technology, and build a highly skilled cadre of national inspectors to ensure quality, transparency, and compliance in medical education.

The three-day pilot training was inaugurated by PM&DC President, Professor Dr. Rizwan Taj, who highlighted that the program represents a major step in strengthening inspection standards and advancing digital transformation in the national accreditation process. He also commended Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal for his visionary and reform-oriented guidance, emphasizing that the minister’s proactive support has greatly contributed to PM&DC’s effective functioning.

The training program brought together master trainers and inspectors from across Pakistan, providing hands-on sessions on the country’s first digital inspection platform, “Digi-Inspect,” and a comprehensive introduction to the updated Inspector Guide. The pilot phase includes practical implementation, regional testing of the Digi-Inspect system, and field inspections at selected medical and dental colleges using Proforma 200 and 350.

A total of 60 participants from Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and the Armed Forces took part, ensuring nationwide representation. Participants were divided into ten multidisciplinary teams covering basic sciences, clinical sciences, medical education, biomedical engineering, hospital management, and civil engineering/architecture.

The second day involved field-based digital inspections at ten colleges, where participants used PM&DC standards, Digi-Inspect software, and digital proformas in real-time, while identifying logistical challenges and ensuring institutional compliance. Experienced facilitators monitored the practical exercises throughout the training.

On the third day, the program concluded with a comprehensive analysis of inspection results, harmonization of scoring criteria, evaluation of participants’ learning outcomes, and collection of feedback to enhance digital tools and procedures. The outcomes of this pilot will guide nationwide implementation of the digital inspection system, improving transparency, timely reporting, and evidence-based decision-making.

Following this pilot, further training sessions will be conducted in Karachi, Lahore, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad-Rawalpindi, and military institutions. PM&DC’s initiative reflects its commitment to advancing medical and dental education in Pakistan through transparency, innovation, robust inspection procedures, and digitalization to meet global standards.
