Petroleum Dealers Give Government 10-Day Ultimatum, Warn of Nationwide Petrol Pump Shutdown

ISLAMABAD SPECIAL REPORTER

The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the government, warning that petrol pumps across the country will be shut down if the dealer margin is not increased to 8 percent.

Speaking to Capital News Point, PPDA Vice Chairman Wasim Kayani said the dealers have rejected the government’s proposed margin and are left with no option but to consider a nationwide shutdown.

Kayani stated that the current dealer margin of 3.12 percent is insufficient for sustainable operations. “We have clearly told the government that we cannot continue working with the existing margin. If the margin is not increased to 8 percent, we will be compelled to close all pumps,” he said.

He added that the association has given the government 10 days to resolve the issue. After the deadline, the PPDA will convene a core committee meeting to announce its final decision. Kayani suggested that even if the government cannot increase the margin immediately, it should commit in writing to raising it gradually in installments.

The PPDA maintains that without a fair margin, petrol pumps cannot operate efficiently, urging the government to take immediate action to avoid nationwide disruption.
