Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the International Year of Peace and Trust conference in Ashgabat, where both leaders agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting was held in an atmosphere of warmth and goodwill.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the successful 22nd session of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Economic Commission and stressed the need to further increase bilateral trade, operationalize border markets, enhance border security, and revive the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul railway connectivity. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic and security collaboration.
Discussing regional and global developments, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of urging the Afghan interim administration to effectively address Pakistan’s serious security concerns, particularly the threat of terrorism emanating from Afghan soil. The two leaders also exchanged views on ongoing peace efforts in Gaza.
President Pezeshkian thanked the Prime Minister for the constructive and timely exchange of views and expressed Iran’s strong desire to further strengthen its relations with Pakistan.
