Transporters have called off their strike after successful negotiations with the Punjab government. The breakthrough came during a meeting between Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and representatives of the transport community, held on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who also formed a special committee to resolve transporters’ concerns.
The committee, headed by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, includes representatives of various transporter groups and will hold its next meeting on Saturday to finalize solutions. Following the agreement, transporters announced the immediate end of their strike.
The reconciliation agreement was signed by Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Haji Sher Ali Chaudhry and other office bearers. Minister Maryam Aurangzeb welcomed the decision, stating that the government is committed to resolving issues through dialogue and ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens.
Transport leaders including Nabeel Mehmood Tariq, Muhammad Riaz Khan Tajak, Chaudhry Maqbool Hussain, Rana Tariq Mushtaq, Malik Ejaz, Malik Maroof, Saif Shah Deen Gujar, Faisal Bashir Bhatti, Malik Javed, and Haji Pervaiz Awan participated in the negotiations.
Haji Sher Ali announced that all transport-related issues will be resolved in Saturday morning’s meeting with the Chief Minister and Senior Minister, urging transporters to bring their vehicles back on the roads immediately. He emphasized that since the alliance has officially ended the strike, normal operations should resume without delay.
Alliance Chairman Riaz Tajak confirmed that one-day meetings have been scheduled to address transporters’ demands and assured that transporters will now face only a single challan per day. Pakistan Goods Transporters Association President Nabeel Mehmood Tariq added that relief has been provided on fines and municipal matters, prompting the withdrawal of the strike call.
Transporters have now resumed operations across Punjab, ending the shutdown that had disrupted goods movement in the province.
