U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday evening signed an executive order aimed at restricting state-level regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) and halting the enforcement of existing state laws in the sector.

Speaking to reporters, Trump emphasized the need for a unified federal approach, saying, “In the race for AI supremacy, either the U.S. or China will win. Forget trying to get approval from 50 different states. We need a centralized authority to oversee AI.”

Trump also touched on other national security and foreign policy issues. He claimed thousands of killers have entered the U.S. from Venezuela, while drug smuggling via maritime routes has decreased by 92 percent. He hinted at potential ground operations in Venezuela.

On Ukraine, Trump criticized past U.S. aid, stating, “We gave Ukraine $350 billion and received nothing in return. Last month alone, 25,000 people, including soldiers, were killed. We do not want a third world war.”

Regarding the Middle East, Trump highlighted U.S. efforts to maintain peace in Gaza and claimed that Iran’s nuclear capability was set back by two months due to U.S. actions, noting that Tehran now seeks to negotiate with Washington.
