A shallow but active western disturbance is expected to affect northern and western parts of Pakistan from December 13 to 15, bringing light to moderate rainfall in plain areas and snowfall over hilly and high-altitude regions, according to weather assessments.
The system will mainly impact Kohistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), where mountainous corridors are likely to receive the highest snowfall. These areas face an increased risk of road closures and travel disruptions due to accumulating snow and slippery conditions. Parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat and surrounding northwestern districts, may experience isolated rainfall and snowfall over nearby hills.
From December 16 to 18, the western disturbance is expected to weaken; however, very cold conditions will persist across northern regions. Icy and slippery roads are anticipated in higher elevations, while isolated snow showers may continue in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and adjoining mountainous areas. Cold and dense fog conditions may also develop at isolated locations during this period, affecting visibility and travel.
Authorities have advised residents and travelers in hilly and high-altitude areas to exercise caution and stay updated on local weather and road conditions.
