Polling Ends in PS-9 Shikarpur By-Election as Vote Counting Begins

Polling for the by-election in Sindh Assembly constituency PS-9 Shikarpur concluded on time, and the counting of votes has begun, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The ECP stated that polling started at 8:00 am and continued uninterrupted until 5:00 pm. A total of eight candidates contested the election, including Pakistan Peoples Party’s Agha Shehbaz Khan Durrani and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan’s Maulana Rashidullah Shah. The seat fell vacant following the demise of PPP MPA Agha Siraj Durrani.

Election officials reported that the constituency has 277,792 registered voters, comprising 148,310 male and 129,482 female voters. For the polling process, 178 polling stations were established, including 49 for men, 49 for women, and 80 combined polling stations.

Out of the total polling stations, 54 were declared highly sensitive and 84 sensitive. Acting on the directives of Provincial Election Commissioner Sindh, Ejaz Anwar Chauhan, strict security arrangements were put in place to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful electoral process and to prevent any untoward incidents.
