The Minister for Railways chaired an important meeting regarding the Sukkur Railway Division, during which detailed discussions were held on railway infrastructure and passenger facilities. Acting on the directions of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Railways Minister, in collaboration with the Chief Minister of Sindh, decided to initiate several railway development projects across Sindh.
Following the successful upgradation of Karachi Cantt Railway Station, the minister announced that Rohri Railway Station would now be upgraded. A comprehensive master plan for the upgradation of Rohri Station has been prepared, and tenders for the project will be issued within the current month.
The upgradation project will be completed with the cooperation of the Sindh government, with project costs to be shared equally—50 percent by the Sindh government and 50 percent by Pakistan Railways. The minister stated that the project is targeted for completion by June next year, after which Rohri Station will be among the most modern and well-equipped railway stations in the country.
Highlighting the importance of Rohri Station, the minister noted that more than 20,000 passengers use the station daily, making improvements in facilities essential. He further announced plans to strengthen Rohri’s role as a key junction of Pakistan Railways.
Terming the initiatives a major relief for the people of Sindh, the minister also announced the uplift of Sukkur Railway Station, restoring it to its original historical and aesthetic condition. He directed that the refurbishment and upgradation of Sukkur Express rakes be completed at the earliest.
The Chief Minister of Sindh assured full cooperation in the Rohri Station project and other development initiatives, including converting unsafe unmanned railway crossings into manned crossings to enhance safety. The Railways Minister welcomed the support of the Sindh government.
To ensure the provision of quality and safe food to passengers, the minister decided to write to the Sindh Food Authority, reiterating his firm stance that no compromise would be made on food quality.
