Lahore Bureau Report
The year 2025 proved to be an emotionally mixed chapter for Pakistan’s showbiz industry, marked by notable achievements as well as profound losses. While some artists celebrated success, the industry also mourned the passing of several prominent personalities whose deaths left a lasting impact on fans and colleagues alike.
Among the most shocking incidents were the deaths of senior drama actress Ayesha Khan and actress Humaira Asghar. On June 20, 2025, Ayesha Khan was found deceased in her apartment in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area after neighbors reported a foul smell. Authorities later recovered her body from the flat. Similarly, on July 8, the unrecognizable body of actress Humaira Asghar was discovered in a Defence area apartment in Karachi. Medical reports indicated she had passed away months earlier. She was laid to rest on July 11 in her hometown of Lahore, and police investigations later declared her death natural.
The first major loss of the year was veteran comedian Javed Kodu, who passed away in April 2025 after a prolonged illness. In his final interview, he spoke candidly about financial hardships and the lack of support from colleagues. On May 3, Humaira Abid—former actress, wife of late actor Abid Ali, and mother of film star Iman Ali—also passed away. She was remembered for her work during PTV’s golden era.
The industry further lost renowned comedian and theatre, TV, and film actor Lucky Dear, who died on September 30, 2025, in Lahore after battling lung disease and diabetes. Earlier, on September 1, acclaimed film, television, and stage actor Anwar Ali passed away following long-term health complications.
In October, celebrated film writer Muhammad Kamal Pasha died after a prolonged illness. Known for writing scripts for more than 300 films, his work focused on social issues, poverty, love, moral decline, and human struggles. Later, on November 4, respected film producer and distributor Chaudhry Kamran Ijaz passed away due to a brain hemorrhage.
These losses collectively marked 2025 as a year of mourning for Pakistan’s entertainment industry. The contributions, talent, and legacy of these artists will continue to be remembered and cherished by generations to come.
