Federal Cabinet Approves Visa Clearance System, Key Legislative and Policy Measures

The federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, approved the implementation of a Visa Clearance System recommended by the Ministry of Interior, aimed at providing Pakistani citizens traveling abroad with a transparent, secure, and streamlined visa process.

During the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s House on Tuesday, the cabinet also approved the repeal of the National University for Security Sciences Islamabad 2025 Bill and granted in-principle approval for amendments to the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Ordinance 2002 (PPRA Ordinance 2002) to modernize public tendering and procurement processes in line with contemporary standards.

Addressing the cabinet, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the government’s commitment to peaceful dialogue with all political parties to ensure national development, prosperity, and political harmony. He noted that attempts to disturb law and order under the guise of political dialogue would not be allowed. The Prime Minister also highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure a transparent, credible, and accountable privatization process for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The cabinet congratulated the nation on Pakistan’s victory in the Under-19 Asia Cup and approved the extension of the Off-Grid Power Plants Levy Act 2025 to allow third-party sales of gas to captive power plants, following the Petroleum Division’s recommendation.

In addition, the cabinet approved the National Canabis Control and Regulatory Policy 2025, promoting the use of botanical plants in the pharmaceutical and textile sectors. Furthermore, the cabinet ratified decisions of previous meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases and the Economic Coordination Committee, ensuring smooth legislative and policy implementation.

These measures reflect the government’s focus on modernization, transparency, and citizen-centric services across governance, energy, and regulatory frameworks.
