US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem has stated that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro will not be allowed to remain in power for long, signaling a tougher stance by Washington against the current Venezuelan leadership.
According to foreign media reports, Kristi Noem said that the United States would not tolerate what it describes as the illegal activities of President Maduro. She added that the recent interception of two oil-carrying vessels near Venezuela reflects Washington’s determination to prevent Maduro from continuing such actions.
Noem emphasized that the US government believes the time has come for President Maduro to step down, reiterating that the current situation in Venezuela is unacceptable to the international community.
Meanwhile, Russia has strongly criticized the steps taken by the United States. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed serious concerns over Washington’s actions and assured Venezuela of Moscow’s full support. Lavrov stated that Russia would continue to firmly back Venezuela’s sovereignty and oppose any external pressure against the country.
