Garhi Khuda Bakhsh (Bureau Report):
President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to defend its sovereignty, saying the nation would make every sacrifice whenever the “motherland” requires it.
Addressing a gathering at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh on the 18th death anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, President Zardari welcomed party workers and supporters, stating that Pakistan would endure forever.
He praised the leadership of the armed forces, saying Pakistan had appointed an army chief who had given a strong response to India. “India now understands that war is not a game. Pakistanis know how to defend themselves,” he said, adding that restraint had been shown despite provocations.
The president emphasized that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the heirs of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto remain committed to protecting the country. He said the party and its workers were prepared to make sacrifices for the defense of the homeland.
Recalling past challenges, President Zardari said he had faced imprisonment with resolve and had chosen to confront difficulties head-on. “The Pakistan Peoples Party alone is enough for its enemies,” he remarked.
He stressed that Pakistan does not seek conflict with any country but warned that any act of aggression would be met with a firm response. “If anyone lays a hand on our sovereignty, they will face consequences,” he said.
The president concluded by paying tribute to Benazir Bhutto, stating that the party continues to uphold her vision and legacy, reaffirming its commitment to democracy and national security.
