MULTAN (Bureau Report)
Political Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has rejected what he termed as legislation carried out under coercion, stating that such laws are unacceptable. Addressing a gathering at Political Jamia Qasim-ul-Uloom in Multan, he questioned how the government managed to secure a two-thirds majority within a year.
He alleged that votes were extracted by pressuring members of parliament, saying that parliamentarians were compelled to vote against their will. The JUI chief further criticized the 27th Constitutional Amendment, claiming that it was passed without proper consultation.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman also clarified that religious seminaries (madaris) are not the cause of extremism or militancy, and rejected narratives blaming them for radicalization.
