The Foreign Office spokesperson has expressed serious concern over the recent incidents of violence and vandalism against minorities in India during the Christmas celebrations. The spokesperson highlighted that state-supported campaigns targeting Muslims have heightened fear and insecurity among minority communities.
Responding to media questions on Monday, FO spokesperson Tahir Andarabi said the violence and intimidation of minorities in India is deeply alarming. He pointed to incidents where homes were demolished and mobs repeatedly attacked Muslims, including the specific case of Mohammad Ikhlaq, where the state allegedly took measures to shield perpetrators from accountability, further increasing fear and alienation among Muslim communities.
Spokesperson Andarabi urged the international community to take notice of these events and called for appropriate measures to ensure the protection of fundamental rights for vulnerable groups in India.
