Lahore (Bureau Report):
The notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner Lahore granting permission to celebrate Basant has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.A miscellaneous petition was filed by Advocate Azhar Siddique, contending that the Deputy Commissioner had issued a notification allowing Basant celebrations on February 6, 7, and 8. The petitioner stated that in recent days, a young girl and a youth were seriously injured due to incidents involving kite strings.
The petition maintained that kite string-related incidents have previously resulted in the loss of precious human lives. It argued that permitting Basant poses serious risks to public safety and endangers innocent citizens. The petitioner requested the Lahore High Court to direct the Deputy Commissioner to withdraw the notification and to suspend its implementation until a final decision is made on the main petition.
The court is expected to take up the matter for hearing in due course.
