The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) imposed fines totaling PKR 22.02 million on 1,471 food points during 2025 for selling unsafe and substandard food, according to the authority’s annual performance report.
The report revealed that the IFA conducted 12,697 inspections and enforcement actions throughout the year, targeting unsafe meat, expired food items, gutka, and substandard dairy products. Additionally, 230 food samples were collected for testing.
Due to serious health violations, 700 food points were sealed, while 4,786 food licenses were issued to regulate food businesses. Legal action was also initiated against 15 food points for major violations.
During these operations, a total of 248,703 kilograms of unsafe food were destroyed to protect public health.
The Director of Islamabad Food Authority emphasized the institution’s ongoing commitment to providing safe and quality food to citizens and urged the public to report unsafe food to support the “Healthy Islamabad” mission.
